EXTRA-ORDINARY OUTREACH/EVANGELISM

Greater works than these

John 14:12-14

"Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father.

"Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in

"If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it. the Son.

Compare:

Jhn 5:20 "For the Father loves the Son and shows him all that he himself is doing. And greater works than these will he show him, so that you may marvel.

Jhn 5:36 "But the testimony that I have is greater than that of John. For the works that the Father has given me to accomplish, the very works that I am doing bear witness about me that the Father has sent me.

WHAT ARE GREATER WORKS DID JESUS DO?

HE DID EXTRA-ORDINARY OUTREACH………….

1. HE INVITED PEOPLE

2. TESTIFIED/PROCLAIMED.

3. PRAYED/HEALED THE SICK.

WHERE EVER HE WENT HE WAS DOING GOOD.

ACTS 2:38

"How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.

LUKE 4:18

"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed,

LUKE 4:19

"To proclaim the year of the Lord's favor."

ARE WE ANOINTED LIKE JESUS?

ANOINT;

Literally means to pour oil on the head, often as a sign of defined calling and empowerment.

See… how it happened in the Old Testament.

Exodus 29:7

"You shall take the anointing oil and pour it on his head and anoint him.

1 Sam.16:13

Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers. And the Spirit of the Lord rushed upon David from that day forward. And Samuel rose up and went to Ramah

Ps.23:5.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

2 Cor.1:21-22

And it is God who establishes us with you in Christ, and has anointed us,

22) and who has also put his seal on us and given us his Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.

Paul reminds us that just as God anointed Jesus for a particular service and ministry, so He has anointed us for ministries, not with oil, but with the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen !

1 Jn.2:20.

But you have been anointed by the Holy One, and you all have knowledge.

1 Jn. 2:27

But the anointing that you received from him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about everything--and is true and is no lie, just as it has taught you--abide in him.

NB:

This Jesus who is doing greater things lives in us:

Col.1:27-29

To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ.

For this I toil, struggling with all his energy that he powerfully works within me.

1 Tim.4:10

For to this end we toil and strive, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe.

SAVIOR OF ALL PEOPLE.

Mt.11:28

"Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Example of some of Jesus works:

Lk.4:31-41

31) And he went down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee. And he was teaching them on the Sabbath,

32) and they were astonished at his teaching, for his word possessed authority. 33) And in the synagogue there was a man who had the spirit of an unclean demon, and he cried out with a loud voice,

34) "Ha! What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are--the Holy One of God”.

35) But Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be silent and come out of him!" And when the demon had thrown him down in their midst, he came out of him, having done him no harm.

36). And they were all amazed and said to one another, "What is this word? For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out!"

37). And reports about him went out into every place in the surrounding region

38).And he arose and left the synagogue and entered Simon's house. Now Simon's mother-in-law was ill with a high fever, and they appealed to him on her behalf.

39). and he stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her, and immediately she rose and began to serve them.

40).Now when the sun was setting, all those who had any who were sick with various diseases brought them to him, and he laid his hands on every one of them and healed them.

41) And demons also came out of many, crying, "You are the Son of God!" But he rebuked them and would not allow them to speak, because they knew that he was the Christ.

Lk.5:15

But now even more the report about him went abroad, and great crowds gathered to hear him and to be healed of their infirmities.

NB:

Jesus was always into prayer.

Lk.5:16

But he would withdraw to desolate places and pray.

Mrk.1:35

And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed.

Mrk.1:36

And Simon and those who were with him searched for him, (37) and they found him and said to him, "Everyone is looking for you."

Jesus testified/proclaimed:

Mrk.1:14-15

Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, (15) and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel."

Invited:

Mrk.1:16-17

Passing alongside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen.(17) And Jesus said to them, "Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men."

Conclusion:

Those who believe will do greater things than these; (Jn.14:12)

Mrk.2:12

And he rose and immediately picked up his bed and went out before them all, so that they were all amazed and glorified God, saying, "We never saw anything like this!"

Zac.4:6

Then he said to me, "This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of hosts.

Ps.108:13

With God we shall do valiantly; it is he who will tread down our foes.

1Jn. 4:4

Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.

AMEN!!!
