The Spirit Of Christ

Following a very sad week of death and tragedy in Haiti, we may fell weak in our flesh but in this New Year of 2010 - we have a ROCK of stability with in us, Christ in you, the hope of glory!

I run to the ROCK of my salvation, I go to the STONE that the builders rejected,

I run to the MOUNTAIN and the MOUNTAIN stands by me, when all around is sinking sand on CHRIST the solid ROCK I stand, when I need a shelter when I need a friend I go to the ROCK

Praise the name of J-e-s-u-s, Praise the name of J-e-s-u-s, He is my ROCK, He is my fortress, He is my deliverer in Him will I trust, Praise the name of J-e-s-u-s.

·       Romans 8:9 (English Standard Version)

9You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.

So we are exploring the depths of …

"Christ in you, the hope of glory”

·       Colossians 1:27 (English Standard Version)

27 To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

Today we rejoice that the Spirit within is the Rock of stability!

·       Psalms 105:41, KJV

HE (the Lord) opened the ROCK, and the waters gushed out; they ran in the dry places like a river.”

·       Psalm 105:41 (English Standard Version)

He opened the rock, and water gushed out;
   it flowed through the desert like a river.

·       Deuteronomy 8:15 (English Standard Version)

who led you through the great and terrifying wilderness, with its fiery serpents and scorpions and thirsty ground where there was no water, who brought you water out of the flinty rock,

·       1 Corinthians 10:4, KJV

And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual ROCK that followed them: and that Rock was CHRIST.

 We want to look closer at the One known as the "Rock of Israel

·       2 Samuel 23:3 (English Standard Version)

The God of Israel has spoken;
   the Rock of Israel
has said to me:
When one rules justly over men,
   ruling in the fear of God,

The Psalmist said much about Christ, the Rock of our stability;

His personal testimony was that the Lord is:

1.                       "The Rock of my refuge and STRENGTH”

·       Psalm 62:7 (King James Version)

 7In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.

·       Psalm 62:7 (English Standard Version)

7On God rests my salvation and my glory;
   my mighty rock, my refuge is God.

2. "The Rock of my SALVATION”

Psalm 89:26 (English Standard Version)

26He shall cry to me, 'You are my Father,
   my God, and the Rock of my salvation.'

Psalm 95

Let Us Sing Songs of Praise

 1Oh come, let us sing to the LORD;
   let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!

3. "The Rock of my REFUGE”

Psalm 94:22 (English Standard Version)

22But the LORD has become my stronghold,
   and my God the rock of my refuge.

The hymn-writer knew this well:

"On CHRIST the solid ROCK I stand; all other ground is sinking sand, all other ground is sinking sand.”

·       Matthew 7:24-27 (English Standard Version)

Build Your House on the Rock

 24 "Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. 26And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it."

Our STABILITY is in and by the Spirit.

"Christ in you” is the Source of our being "ESTABLISHED” in the Lord.

The primary Hebrew word for this means, "to be erect (to stand perpendicular); to be firm, to be stable; to be fixed, to be securely determined; or to be settled.”

Those who know the secret of Christ within are firmly anchored like a pillar, established in His grace and love

·       2 Samuel 7:16 (English Standard Version)

16 And your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me. Your throne shall be established forever.'"

·       Psalm 40:2 (English Standard Version)

2He drew me up from the pit of destruction,
   out of the miry bog,
and set my feet upon a rock,
   making my steps secure.

He drew me out of the miry clay,

He set my feet on the ROCK to stay –

He put a song in my soul today,

A song of praise Hallelujah!

English Standard Version (ESV)

·       Psalm 89:2

2For I said, "Steadfast love will be built up forever;
   in the heavens you will establish your faithfulness."

·       Psalm 89:4

4'I will establish your offspring forever,
   and build your throne for all generations.'"

·       Psalm 89:21

21so that my hand shall be established with him;
   my arm also shall strengthen him.

·       Psalm 89:37

37Like the moon it shall be established forever,
    a faithful witness in the skies."

·       Psalm 93:1-2 (English Standard Version)

Psalm 93

The LORD Reigns

 1 The LORD reigns; he is robed in majesty;
   the LORD is robed; he has put on strength as his belt.
 Yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved.

2 Your throne is established from of old;
    you are from everlasting.

The Greek word for

is sterizo, and it means,

·       to set fast,

·       to turn resolutely in a certain direction,

·       or (figuratively) to confirm;

·       to make stable,

·       to place firmly,

·       to fix,

·       to strengthen,

·       or to make firm

It is derived from the word sterix (a prop)—the Lord is our Support and Stay.

·       Romans 1:11 (English Standard Version)

11For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you

·       Romans 16:25 (English Standard Version)

 25 Now to him who is able to strengthen you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery that was kept secret for long ages

David ran to Rock that is "higher” —in the time of trouble, who do you run to?

·       Psalm 61:2 (English Standard Version)

2from the end of the earth I call to you
   when my heart is faint.
Lead me to the rock
   that is higher than I

·    What is the source of your strength?

·    What props you up?

The Christ within is also your Teacher and Guide!

·       John 14:26 (English Standard Version)

26But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.

·       John 16:13 (English Standard Version)

13When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.

·       1 John 2:27 (English Standard Version)

27But the anointing that you received from him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie—just as it has taught you, abide in him.

·       Do you understand His Word?

·       Has He "established” you in the "present truth”?

·       2 Peter 1:12 (King James Version)

 12Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth.

·       2 Peter 1:12 (English Standard Version)

 12Therefore I intend always to remind you of these qualities, though you know them and are established in the truth that you have.

·       Deuteronomy 32:4, KJV

He is the Rock, His work is perfect: for all His ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is He.

The Rock that followed God's people throughout their wilderness pilgrimage sprang up every morning with refreshing strength for the journey.

·      Is He your Rock?

·      Are You Established In Him?
